Design: think about the future, live the present
Abstract
The word “design” is perhaps the one we use most in our craft. Dictionary for centuries, in our métier it means foreseeing, creating, writing and registering ideas and spaces. More recently, through the development of graphic technologies, we have noticed that design has also encompassed, with great repercussion, the public interested in architectural-urban proposals, giving it more prestige as an anticipator of realities. Design, anyway, is a word coated with symbolism. We live in a time when dreaming is more than necessary. It is an exercise in resuming life, in its multiple possibilities. We lack a nation project, cities and polis; of personal and collective life; green and health systems; of places of affection and memories. Our profession also needs to be redefined in order to produce a social perception that we have - still, and perhaps more than before - a social function to fulfill in a world marked by traumas, some of which were unimaginable just a few years ago.
Issue 12 of Revista Thésis marks a very important moment, which is the resumption of projects. After 24 months of a dark experience, which was the experience of a pandemic that redefined ways of living, working, leisure and sociability, we deliver an edition that brings demarcations of hope. We hope, as an Editorial Committee, that we are contributing to a project of institutional life of our ANPARQ, but also of a country. With this edition, part of our editors leaves the function, following a relay agreement entered into with the Association's board. Colleagues Rachel Coutinho Marques da Silva (PPGArq/PUC-Rio) and Fernando Atique (UNIFESP) say goodbye, and colleagues Márcio Cotrim and Lídia Quieto continue, receiving in the magazine's team, which will be in charge of the next issues, colleagues Tomás Antônio Moreira (IAU/USP), and James Shoiti Miyamoto (PROURB/UFRJ). It is a time, therefore, to take stock of this last biennium, not only for a project to redefine the magazine, but also to carry out new projects for Thésis.
