Accessible projects
a user-centered process
Abstract
In order to design in an accessible way it is necessary, first of all, to get to know the people to whom it is being projected, recognizing their possible limitations. To this end, it must be adopted the proposal of elaboration of project considering that the
entire process is centered in the user. The philosophy of universal design fits well to this intention, because it brings a reflection on how to considerate the different people and their spatial needs throughout the process of designing. In this paper, theoretical aspects are approached about the universal design and the project of accessible project, as well as a series of methods, which have one objective in common: get to know the different capacities and limitations of people, in order to consider them in the conception
of environments accessible to everybody. This paper aims at presenting means so that the designer can approach the probable user of space. To this end, there is an explanation of some methods of inquiring of users and examples of application of these ones in the process of designing. The methods here discussed can be utilized as strategies of teaching within the college subjects of design in the Courses of Architecture and Urbanism and Design.
