The founding myth of Greco-Goian architecture in three acts: Sauna and Tarzan's Academy.

Abstract

In three acts, we present our vision of the founding myth of Greco-Goian architecture: the Tarzan Sauna and Gym. Designed and built in the 1980s in the still-young capital of Goiás, the gym seems to condense the cult of the male body and the conservatism characteristic of the city, which would also consolidate itself as the cradle of sertanejo music. From this association, an architectural style specific to the Brazilian Midwest is delineated: the so-called Greco-Goian architecture.

Based on images of this architecture, we have created a montage—composed of texts and images—that seeks to reflect on sertanejo as a popular musical genre and its consolidation as mass culture. The journey arrives at its most recent aspect, synthesized in the figure of the "agroboy," whose masculinized image finds support and expression in this architectural repertoire.
